Blog 8

During my process here at Kaplan, I have had a lot of difficulty trying to keep up with my school work. Most of the time is because I get off of work late, do a double shift or I have Internet problem. I thought that it would be OK to play catch up but when you are behind it's not easy to do that . Comments being made to the blog can be gaining at time, and at other times it can be difficult to deal with. Some of the times you find you have classmates that are not encouraging when giving ideas, they are just there to criticize your work.
When I am through with this course, I would like to continue blogging with who ever is interested.

Peer Review

When it comes to peer review, I think it is a good idea for you to see what your paper is about from someone else point of view. You might think that your paper is alright, but when your peer looks at it they might be able to give you some more information from another point of view, see simple mistakes that you may have by pass (commas, periods, capitalization) and so forth. I have had peer review in the past and it had work out pretty good for me where as I was able to get more information on my topic. I was given an opportunity to go beyond and see a lot more than what I though was there.

Last weeks of class

For the last six weeks thing have been going good for me on till the the 5th unit, I have been getting computer trouble where it started to freeze and I have to restart the computer everytime it does that. Other than that i have had a great time with my school work. The topic I have chose is obesity in children, it has given me a lot of information on way to deal with obesity (when it comes to peer pressure, teasing and so forth), ways to prevent it from happening and if it does how to eat healthy. I can use some of this same information in later research to help out someone who may not know much about obesity, or may have a child that is obese.

Writing process

My personal writing process techinique that I like to use is brainstorming because you get to write down whats on your mind without having to stop and think if you are going right or wrong. When brainstorming you get all your ideas out there and later you can revise and make corrections to complete your paper.
One thing that I am having trouble with academically is always how to write a thesis statement. I thought that I could use a question as my thesis, but I will need details to support my thesis statement.
Going back to school has been a long journey for me but I am holding on till I reach the end where I can say that I have accomplish something. Doing classes has giving me an opportunity to help my kids with there school work and so forth.

Plagiarism

To avoid plagiarism, I think that one should cite their sources so that credit can be given where credit is due. When someone uses something that you created without given you credit, I would address them and find out why they are taking all the credit when it was me that did the work. See what response I get and if further action needs to be taken that is what I will do.

In the real world when plagiarism is being done it is always handeled in a professional way, whereas those individuals are confronted and asks why? If no good answers a given, a penalty is applied.

I do not think that the internet blurs the line of "legally owned". I may be wrong but if I am just let me know.

Life as a student

Being an online student has open up a lot of doors for me, it has shows me ways of doing things on the computer that I never knew how to do. I always wanted to go back to school so when online class was introduce to me I said I will give it a try and here I am being the best I can be. A closer class community can be established if we agree to get into groups and communicate on a daily basis, where class information can be discuss and so forth. I like working in small groups so the blog-o-sphere would not be ideal for me.

Online classes

Hello everyone, Doing classes online was my only option to further my education being that I work late and is unable to sit in a classroom. I do not know if i was the only person in my classes that was doing online classes for the first time. I have tried from day one to keep up with the assignment. I might miss couple seminars in the beginning due to work, but I alway try to do the make up work.



I like my classes and I hope that all my fellow classmates have a successful journey in the career of their choice.
